loveable cities

It has become clear that urban planning based on the traditional master plan is no longer appropriate. This is because it is unable to 'build in' the flexibility necessary to adapt to future challenges and circumstances.

In response to this trend, Marc Koehler Architects has developed a contextual, research driven and multi-scale design approach to the built environment that can broadly be defined as OPEN PLANNING.

This method provides questions, strategies and solutions for the (potential) problems of tomorrow. As such, it is visionary whilst also, paradoxically, being flexible, open and pragmatic.

Within this approach we challenge ourselves to built a strategic urban framework in which communities can flourish in a truly sustainable manner. In order to obtain this result, it is crucial to develop new supportive connections between the 'domestic domain', the 'urban culture' and the 'natural landscape'.

Marc Koehler Architects has won a variety of competitions dealing with urban strategy and open planning.
